Station UI
Launching the first open source component library for Elixir & LiveView Native.
Technology
LiveView Native brings the power of Elixir to native devices. Station UI delivers drop in frontend components designed for speed.
My Role
I lead design while uniting R&D teams to success delivering a robust design system and web-based component library.
Value
Station UI provides thoughtful UX defaults, limitless customization, and baseline accessibility features out of the box.
Good Teams Build With Principles
Guiding principles aligned component planning and inclusive implementation discussions.
The principles I had outlined guided our build commitments by highlighting the primary end user's need.
Atomic Flavoring
Built in an atomic framework, customization attributes publishes changes across all components inheriting a UI element, providing an easy lift to build diverse digital experiences.
Out of the box, Station UI components are designed with native UX best-practices with Android and Apple guidelines. This was done to allow teams to rapidly build usable experiences before focusing on a branded look and feel.
Offering Teams More
There are many component libraries out there, but most only offer primitive UI elements. We planned a priority list of complex features commonly used in our client work and blocked by competitor paywalls.
This catalog approach also has mapped out responsive behaviors and complex interactions for device-specific user expectations. such as "drag-and-drop" changing to "tap-to-upload" on touch devices.
It's Alive!
The live web-based library provides code snippets for drop-in LiveView Native components. Designers and Developers are free to implement styling and attribute changes to achieve that unique product identity.
Offering a web-view library also allows teams to play with the atomic blueprint of Station UI and collaborate using a unified foundation of terminology.
Behind The Brand
"I am not a brand designer...
...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once!"
I started the branding search by testing terms commonly associated with partnering technologies. This felt like it missed our core offering - a responsive, feature-full, component library that values near limitless customization and unlocks seamless cross-team collaboration.
“Station” is a single hub where traffic converges on its way to a destination.
"Station UI" refers to the collaborative convergence of team decisions where ideas move toward their destination of successful deployment.
